9th Annual Reverse Tashlich

Masorti Olami is proud to partner once again with Repair the Sea for the 9th Annual Reverse Tashlich, a global initiative that brings Jewish communities together through meaningful environmental action.

Tashlich is the Rosh Hashanah tradition of going to a body of water and symbolically casting away our sins as we enter the New Year with a renewed spirit. Reverse Tashlich, created by Repair the Sea, transforms that symbolism into action. Instead of casting something into the water, we remove plastic, litter, and other debris from beaches, rivers, lakes, and shorelines, helping protect the waterways that sustain life.

This initiative reflects the Jewish value of Bal Tashchit, the prohibition against needless waste and destruction. By caring for our local waterways, we turn an ordinary cleanup into a meaningful mitzvah and begin the High Holiday season with an act of responsibility, renewal, and hope.

This year's Reverse Tashlich will take place on Sunday, September 6, 2026—the Sunday before Rosh HaShanah. Whether your community joins on that day or organizes a cleanup at another convenient time during the High Holiday season, we encourage everyone to take part in this meaningful global initiative.

Whether your community gathers at the ocean, a river, a lake, or any local waterway, every cleanup makes a difference. As Kohelet reminds us, "All rivers run to the sea"—every piece of debris removed contributes to healthier waterways and a healthier planet.

Last year, hundreds of teams from dozens of countries joined the initiative, demonstrating the power of communities working together toward a shared purpose. We hope even more Masorti/Conservative communities around the world will take part in 2026.
