Dor Jadash, Dr. Max Nordau Synagogue, is a long-standing Masorti/Conservative community based in the historic neighborhood of Villa Crespo in Buenos Aires. While its current sanctuary was inaugurated in 1955, the community’s origins date back to 1912, when immigrants from Lithuania, Russia and Poland founded a spiritual center that would become a cornerstone of Jewish life in the area.
The congregation moved to its present location at Murillo 661 in 1923, adopting the name “Asociación Hebrea Dr. Max Nordau” in honor of the prominent Zionist leader. In 1985, a new generation shaped the identity of Dor Jadash, embracing the renewed vision of the Conservative Movement inspired by Rabbi Marshall T. Meyer.
Today, Dor Jadash is a flourishing center of Masorti Judaism in Argentina. Its impressive sanctuary, illuminated by stained-glass windows representing the Twelve Tribes, welcomes a vibrant community week after week and hosts numerous lifecycle events, including weddings and nearly one hundred Bnei Mitzvah ceremonies annually.
The community offers a wide range of educational and social programs for all ages, including a weekend kindergarten with more than 250 children and youth, annual camps, and activities for both young families and seniors. Dor Jadash also maintains strong social assistance initiatives, supported by the generosity of its members, continuing its founders’ vision of a welcoming, inclusive and spiritually meaningful home for Jews in Buenos Aires.
