Pesach Campaigns Support Masorti/Conservative Communities in Kenya, Uganda, and Ukraine
April 22nd, 2025

We are thrilled to share that our Pesach fundraising campaigns for Masorti/Conservative communities in Uganda and Kenya (Abayudaya), and Ukraine were a tremendous success!

This Pesach, thanks to the success of our campaigns and our partnership with the Schechter Institutes, we were able to help support over seven communal seders across Ukraine in Chernivtsi, Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Odessa, as well as help provide matzah, wine and other Pesach supplies and preparations.

Something new that we did this year was organize a two-hour online course to learn how to properly bake matzot according to halacha, taught by Rabbi Shlomo Zacharow, in collaboration with Rabbi Irina Gritsevskaya.

In Uganda and Kenya, we helped support communal seders across over 6 communities as well as provide suplies to celebrate Pesach to its fullest.

This would not have been possible without the incredible generosity of our global network of supporters. Thanks to you, we provided 14 communities across three countries with wine and matzah for their holiday celebrations. We are deeply grateful for your continued trust and partnership.

A special shoutout to student leader Maya Friedlander and Cleveland Hillel for their leadership and commitment—we’re excited to keep building together!

About the Abayudaya Communities

The Abayudaya (Luganda word for 'People of Judah') community is comprised of over 2,500 members spread among 11 villages and centers across eastern Uganda and northern Kenya. They live their daily lives committed to traditional Judaism, observing ritual slaughter and kashrut, celebrating Shabbat and holidays, reading Torah on Mondays and Thursdays, and engaging in text study on a regular basis.

Masorti Olami has been supporting the Abayudaya communities for over 20 years, and together with our partners across the Masorti/Conservative movement, we have been focusing on providing the communities with spiritual and financial support to strengthen their communities. Masorti/Conservative Ukrainian communities

Masorti Olami is proud of its role in the renaissance of Jewish life in the Former Soviet Union. More than three years since the war in Ukraine began, our Ukrainian communities continue to face immense challenges. The impact of war is ongoing, and the need for support has not diminished. Across Ukraine, and among refugees who have resettled in Europe, Israel, and the US, our communities rely on us to sustain Jewish life and provide essential aid. Learn more about Masorti Ukraine.
