Ukraine Purim/Pesach Appeal
March 11th, 2025

More than three years since the war in Ukraine began, Masorti/Conservative communities continue to face immense challenges. The impact of war is ongoing, and the need for support has not diminished. Across Ukraine, and among refugees who have resettled in Europe, Israel, and the U.S., our communities rely on us to sustain Jewish life and provide essential aid.

Thanks to our generous supporters, Masorti Olami and The Schechter Institutes have been able to evacuate hundreds of refugees, supply food, medicine, warm clothing, heating, generators, transport, shelter, educational and religious materials, and much more. Our communities in Chernivtsi, Kyiv, and Odessa have managed to maintain regular activities, while smaller groups in Kharkiv and Dnipro continue to receive critical support.

As we celebrate Purim and prepare for Pesach, Masorti Olami invites our global friends and supporters to take part in a special joint campaign with The Schechter Institutes. The mitzvah of Matanot L’evyonim – Gifts for the Needy – is more important than ever as we stand with our Ukrainian Masorti/Conservative communities in this time of great need.

The situation in Ukraine evolves daily, and the needs of our communities continue to grow. With input from our representatives on the ground, we have identified the most urgent areas requiring assistance. Your generous donation will help sustain these vital efforts:

•  Mishloach Manot and Essential Food Packages – As Purim approaches, ensuring that our Ukrainian community members can celebrate with joy and dignity is more important than ever. In these challenging times, the ability to give and receive Mishloach Manot will bring much-needed light and connection to those enduring hardship. While joy feels distant for so many, this tradition will serve as a reminder that they are not alone.

•  Pesach Preparations and Essential Supplies – Planning for Pesach is particularly critical this year, given the ongoing uncertainty in Ukraine. Our efforts include securing locations for communal seders, kashering facilities under rabbinic supervision, and ensuring access to essential supplies such as matzah, wine, meat, haggadot, and other ingredients. We are committed to supporting communal seders in Chernivtsi, Kyiv, Odessa, and Kharkiv, providing both spiritual and physical sustenance during this difficult time.

•  Generators and Security Measures – With the threat of escalating violence, ensuring the safety of our communities is a top priority. This includes repairing broken generators, acquiring new ones, and renovating safe rooms to provide much-needed protection. These measures are vital in helping our communities endure the harsh realities they continue to face.

• Ongoing Refugee Support in Ukraine, Europe, Israel, and the U.S. – Hundreds of refugees continue to rely on our assistance for housing, medical care, educational resources, spiritual support, and leadership training. Whether they remain in Ukraine or have sought refuge abroad, their needs persist, and our commitment to them remains unwavering.

• NOAM Activities and Youth Engagement – Supporting NOAM means investing in the future of our communities. This includes funding staff salaries and training, providing essential materials for programming (peulot), ensuring transportation for camps, organizing meaningful holiday activities, and more.
