ויֵשׁ תִּקְוָה לְאַחֲרִיתֵךְ נְאֻם יְהוָה וְשָׁבוּ בָנִים לִגְבוּלָם" — יִרְמְיָהוּ ל"א:ט"ז"
“And there is hope for your future, says the Lord, and your children shall come back again to their own border” — Jeremiah 31:17
Our hearts are filled and relief with gratitude as we welcome home Eliya Cohen, Omer Shem Tov, Tal Shoham, and Omer Wenkert, who were released after being held hostage in Gaza for 505 days; as well as Avera Mengistu and Hisham Sha’ban Al-Sayed who were released after being held hostage in Gaza for more than a decade. May their return bring hope and reaffirm our unwavering commitment never to abandon those still left behind.
Eliya (27), Omer Shem Tov (23), and Omer Wenkert (23) were all abducted from the Nova music festival, while Tal (40) was abducted from Beeri, along with his wife Adi, their children Nave and Yahel, and his mother-in-law Shoshan who were released after 50 days in captivity. Avera (38) and Hisham (36) both crossed the border into Gaza in 2014 and 2015 respectively, where they were held captive by Hamas for over 7,000 combined days.
We hold both a sacred duty and a moral right to bring all of our sisters and brothers home. We continue to pray and advocate for the immediate release and safe return of the remaining hostages still in captivity.
❱❱ We share a prayer composed with gratitude by Rabbi Nathalie Lastreger on the redemption of captives, in different languages:
