Centro Israelita Portoalegrense

About The Community

The Centro Israelita Porto-Alegrense was founded on September 12, 1917, in Porto Alegre, by Jewish immigrants from Poland, Russia, and Bessarabia, with the purpose of organizing and strengthening community life. Over time, it has established itself as one of the main pillars of the Jewish presence in Southern Brazil. Its imposing headquarters was inaugurated in October 1951 and remains, to this day, the center of its activities. The Center is home to various youth movements and Israeli dance groups, which carry out their activities there and contribute to the cultural formation of new generations. In addition, it is responsible for maintaining two Jewish cemeteries in Porto Alegre, helping to preserve community memory and traditions.
