Masorti Olami joins Women's League for Conservative Judaism for its annual convention
September 10th, 2023

The hybrid event, which took place in Schaumburg, Illinois, brought together over 300 participants for meetings, leadership training, social activities, and special international sessions such as learning more about the Masorti/Conservative movement around the world, and spending Rosh Chodesh together with Women of the Wall live from the Kotel.

Masorti and MERCAZ Olami Deputy Director and WLCJ Board Member Tehila Reuben participated as one of the guest speakers, speaking about our global Masorti/Conservative movement and presenting the organizational map, as well as Masorti Olami and its global impact to the delegates and guests. One of the highlights of her session was working together with WLCJ’s World Community Engagement Committee on highlighting two main areas of our work recently: Ukraine and Uganda.

WLCJ World Community Engagement Chair Illene Schaeffer Rubin shared: "It is always wonderful to see our sisters and share study, tefilah, future endeavors, and most importantly, friendship. But this one was truly special! It was our first truly international convention due to the presence and participation of Tehila Reuben and Dafnah Sizomu (and family). They added another dimension to the experience, and our delegates welcomed this addition to WLCJ and the convention with the theme 'Kol yisrael arevim zeh bazeh'.”

Dafna said: “I loved seeing women from different regions and how they support each other. Making these connections and friendships can make big changes in the world. We all need each other no matter where we come from.”

After experiencing her first WLCJ convention, Tehila says she learned the true meaning of “Sisters Celebrating Sisters,” the theme of this year’s convention. "I was blown away by the sheer commitment and passion among the WLCJ network – it’s unlike anything I have even seen before. Thanks to the entire WLCJ team, specifically Illene, Debbi Kaner Goldich, and Rabbi Ellen Wolintz Fields, our two organizations are working closer than ever before, and quite literally expanding our network and support around the world."

She adds: "Thank you to the 300+ sisters at convention for your warm welcome and support! I am honored to be a part of your work."
