In August 2002 a group of Jewish families from different backgrounds gathered together to organise the Jewish community in central Alicante for the purpose of religious worship, holiday celebrations, community life, and social development and exchange within a Jewish context. In October of the same year, we rented a small place to celebrate Shabbat and other Festivals.
In 2003 we registered as an association in Spain, hired a rabbi to officiate at the High Holydays and received a Sefer Torah from the Masorti Jewish community in Madrid. In 2005 we obtained a grant to lease our current premises, and the Synagogue was renovated and decorated by members of the community.
In 2011 we became a member of Masorti Spain. We offer a range of religious, social and cultural activities, drawing up to 200 people from Alicante and the surrounding area.
