Comunidad Masortí Bet-El, House of G-d, was founded in 1991 with the objective of offering non-Orthodox cultural and religious services based on the Ashkenazi tradition. For a number of years, Kabbalat Shabbat services were held week after week in the homes of the founding families. Since 2004, we have had our own premises, where approximately 80 Madrid-area families congregate and participate in our activities.
Our religious services are mostly traditional, but with one important characteristic: the place of women, who have an equal status to men. The study of texts through reflection and discussion features prominently and the courses offered are taught in a pluralistic and open environment. Hebrew is the liturgical language of most of the prayers, but translations and phonetics are provided so that everyone can follow our services.
